UNITE Union Vote To Strike

Date: 04 May 2012

We have been informed that ballot papers relating to the proposals put together during recent talks involving Acasare currently with drivers, and counting will take place at Unite head office on 10th May.

The results of that ballot will be issued to the employers on Friday 11th May. The extension to 21st May (8 weeks from 26th March) is the maximum legal extension for industrial action.

Action after 21st May could only take place after a new ballot.Unite are required to give 7 days' notice of any planned action which means the last opportunity to announce strike action under the current ballot is at 5pm on 14th May.

Although it has been stated by the employers that this is theirfinal position, it has been recognised by Unite that there may be an opportunity for further talks if necessary over next weekend.

Date: 02 April 2012

The Trade Union UNITE has now received a ballot result, in which 69% voted in favour of a strike which will allow them to take industrial action. However it is a legal requirement that seven days notice is given before industrial action may be taken.

As yet no notice to strike has been issued by UNITE

Around 2,000 members of UNITE at seven Companies participated in the ballot. The seven Companies are Wincanton, DHL, Hoyer, BP, J W Suckling, Norbert Dentressangle and Turners who supply fuel to 90% of the UK's forecourts; of which there are now 8,706 across the UK.

We advise all of our customers:

  • No drivers employed by GB Fuels are members of a trade union

  • No product supplied by GB Fuels is transported into our Albany Road Depot by a member of a trade union

GB Fuels do not envisage any major issues in being able to supply its existing customers with their normal requirements for all products i.e, Kerosene, Premium Kerosene, Gas Oil, Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel and Unleaded Petrol.

Our Trade Association, the Federation of Petroleum Suppliers (FPS) is working closely with Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and United Kingdom Petroleum Industry Association (UKPIA) to minimize the effects of any strike action.
